Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper wounded
HAYS, Kan. | A 45-year-old Hays man is being held on $500,000 bond in the wounding of a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper.
Ruben Herrera Escobedo appeared in Ellis County District Court on Monday, two days after Trooper Doug Schulte was shot after making a routine traffic stop southwest of Hays.
Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees said Schulte, a seven-year patrol veteran, remained hospitalized Monday in stable and improving condition.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

The trooper that was shot is one of my guys who I supervise. I can't say much more now as my agency doesn't like us posting details. I will say that he will be back to work once he recovers.

We had some robbery suspects that got a 13,000,000 bond, and he gets $500,000 for shooting an officer? Regardless, he won't get out but that seemed low to me.
Prayers for all involved. Hope he rots in the pen.

I will say this, it happened during one of those so called "routine traffic stops". Obviously it was far from routine, as we all know none are routine.
