Nassau County PD (New York) LODD Geoffrey Breitkopf
Unofficially the cop has passed, but I'm hearing it from multiple sources.
2nd LODD for this department this year. NCPD hasn't lost 2 cops in 1 year since 1961, and it was similar (1 to car accident, 1 to gunshot).
Cop was shot, name unk at this time, and details are just rumor, so I'm not going to repeat them here. I'll update this tomorrow (or tonight) as more info is released.

A Nassau police officer was killed along with a suspect in a shootout Saturday night in Massapequa Park, authorities said.
The officer, who has yet to be named, may have been killed accidentally, said Det. Lt. Kevin Smith, the county department’s chief spokesman.
Fallen cops: Nassau | Suffolk
"It appears that it might have been an accidental shooting," Smith said. "He died at NUMC. his family was with him."
The officer was pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m., a hospital spokeswoman said.
Both Nassau police and MTA police were involved in the shootout, said Smith, who did not identify which officer killed.
After the shooting, two fellow Nassau cops and an officer from the MTA Police, was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, the Nassau department's chief spokesman said.
A trauma nurse at the hospital who would not be identified, said that the slain officer was shot under his left arm, and that the bullet went through his chest and through his lung.
She said the cop came into the hospital at about 8:45 p.m., police said.
The dead suspect was described only as a 27-year-old man, Smith said.
The authorities said the confrontation began after police got a call for a suspicious person armed with a weapon.
When police arrived, the 27-year-old fled into the home on Fourth Avenue and barricaded himself inside, Smith said.
The suspect hold up himself in a bedroom. Cops came, evacuated the home of the occupants, and soon afterward the suspect charged out of the bedroom with weapons in his hand, Smith said.
He said they got a call for a suspicious person with a weapon when a police officer got here he fled in an eastbound direction and went out into a home and barricaded himself.
Long Island Rail Road spokesman Sam Zambuto would say only that the MTA Police, who patrol the railroad, had responded to a situation in the Massapequa area last night.
Last month, the Nassau County police mourned the department’s first line-of-duty death since 1993 after a highway patrolman was killed during a traffic stop on the Long Island Expressway.
The patrolman, Michael J. Califano, 44, of Wantagh, was killed when a trucker dozed off and slammed into the officer’s stopped patrol car, police said.
The trucker, John Kaley, 25, was arrested shortly after the crash on charges including criminally negligent homicide.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
