Louisiana DPS Officer killed in crash
HOLDEN, LA (WAFB) -
9News has learned a DPS Capitol Police officer died in an accident on I-12 in Holden Tuesday evening.
Louisiana State Police said Corporal John Kendall, 63, was traveling eastbound on I-12 near the Albany exit just after 6 p.m. when he crossed the median and collided with an 18-wheeler and a pick-up truck heading westbound. Police said Kendall died on the scene.
"He epitomizes when you talk about a police officer. The dedication, the integrity of why you wear this badge," said Louisiana State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson.
Kendall was driving home after working Tuesday in the Poydras building in downtown Baton Rouge. He is the first Department of Public Safety officer in the department's history to die in line of duty.
State police said Kendall was also a retired state police sergeant from Troop L in Mandeville.
