P. O. Robert Lasso, Freemansburg Police Department, PA
A Freemansburg police officer with longtime ties to the borough was shot and killed Thursday afternoon on Washington Street when he responded to a domestic call, authorities said, and the suspected gunman was arrested shortly afterward.
Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli identified the officer as Robert A. Lasso, 31, who joined the department in 2004 and is the son of borough Councilman Donald Lasso, a longtime member of the fire department and its former chief.
The suspect, George Hitcho, Jr., 46, of 440 New Street, is in custody and is expected to be charged with homicide, Morganelli said.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
