Developing story: Virginia Tech reporting shots fired on campus
Update at 1:02 p.m. ET: The university says shots were reported near a campus parking lot and tells students to stay inside.
Update at 12:48 p.m. ET: The Virginia Tech website says the shooting suspect is described as white male, with gray sweat pants, gray hat, with neon green brim, maroon hjoodie and backpack. The report says the suspect is on foot walking toward the McComas building.
The university, located in Blacksburg, Va., has issued a security alert and asked students with information to call 911.

Police officer shot on Virginia Tech campus - WJW
BLACKSBURG, Va.—
UPDATED 1:14 p.m.: Virginia Tech has confirmed a police officer has been shot.
A second victim is reported in the Cage Lot.
They believe the suspect is still armed.

UPDATED 1:00 p.m.: NEWS7 reporter Karen Kiley is reporting that a police officer is the one who has been shot.

There is a report of gun shots on the campus of Virginia Tech.
According to Virginia Tech's Twitter feed, the shooting was in the Coliseum Parking Lot.
The alert is telling people to stay inside and secure doors.

Va. Tech: Police officer shot; Suspect sought - CBS News
Virginia Tech says a police officer has been shot and a possible second victim has been reported at a parking lot near the campus, where 32 students and faculty died in a 2007 rampage that was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. The police officer has died, according to the university newspaper's website. A U.S. official tells CBS News correspondent Bob Orr that shots were exchanged after a traffic stop. Friends are deploying on tactical teams now. I don't know yet if I know the dead cop. I've worked with and trained some of the folks there. I'll keep you guys posted.

Virginia Tech shootings: Two killed, suspect at large - latimes.com
During a traffic stop on campus, the suspect shot and killed a Virginia Tech police officer and then fled on foot through a nearby parking lot.
A second person was later found dead in that parking lot, the university said...

While I didn't know the deceased, like Xiphos, I trained with VA Tech cops from time to time in my 5 years in VA. They got a bum rap after the mass killing, they're top notch.
The world would be much cleaner if blind people carried brooms instead of sticks.
