Mobile officer stabbed in neck, pronounced dead
A Mobile Police Officer was stabbed in the neck this afternoon and later died at the hospital. The subject had been arrested for robbery and was in the sally port at the jail when he was apparently able to produce a blade from a medallion that he was wearing and stab the officer in the throat, then steal his cruiser.
The subject was later cornered and killed by officers. Ofc. Greene had only been on for 1 1/2 yrs. The subject was handcuffed behind his back and it is unclear at this point how he got to the blade. Another officer was shot on the scene, with Greene's weapon, where we cornered the fuck. The officer was shot in the arm and is believed to not be seriously injured at this time.

I'm sorry to hear that.

That sucks. Praying for you guys.
"There is no 'nice' way to arrest a potentially dangerous, combative suspect. The police are our bodyguards, our hired fists, batons and guns. We pay them to do the dirty work of protecting us, the work we're too afraid, too unskilled or too civilized to do ourselves. We expect them to keep the bad guys out of our businesses, cars and houses, out of our face. We want them to 'take care of the problem.' We just don't want to see how its done."

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

I'm very sorry for the loss.
And want to add, a very valuable training opportunity lies in this tragedy, one that could save a number of other officers. Is there any way that your department can send out an officer safety bulletin describing and photographing the medallion and where the blade came from? The world would be much cleaner if blind people carried brooms instead of sticks.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
