Chad's home
A couple of weeks ago, one of my freinds was shot in the chest while responding to a robbery in progress at a Winn-Dixie in Mobile. Chad Wynn was on his way to a side job when the call came out and responded. Two armed suspects were in the store and Chad and two other officers entered the store. Chad was in front and was shot in the chest by one of the suspects (he was not wearing a vest
). The bullett nicked his heart and lung, but they were able to stabilize him at the hospital. One suspect was shot 9 x's by officers when he exited the store during a shootout. The other suspect was shot in the shoulder and is currently in Metro jail without bond. The other suspect is still in the hospital and is expected to live
. Both subjects are facing Robbery first charges and 5 counts of attempted murder (at least three of those for attempted murder of officers-but not sure of all the details of the charges).
Chad was allowed to go home today and came to his girlfreind's house, who lives a couple of houses down from me. I wasn't home at that time because I was at dinner with my sister. Hopefully I'll get to see him tomorrow. Chad is very lucky and we were lucky that no other officers were hit in the shootout. One officer was under fire only about 30 ft from a suspect without any cover--still don't know how he didn't get hit. I almost had to go to the second funeral for an officer in the last two months.
EVERYONE WHERE YOUR FRIGGIN VESTS!! I don't like wearing mine, but I feel naked without it. Chad never wore a vest, but should have put one on before entering the store and he is very lucky. STAY SAFE!YOUR ATTENTION, DO I F@#%ING HAVE IT?
I swear to Christ, if I survive this I'm gonna dance a jig!

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm always yelling at the guys when I walk into a substation and they are sitting benind the plexiglass and their vest is on the floor next to the desk. We all know it sucks to wear but I point out that when someone clicks the wrong way and HAS to kill a cop, where better to find one than sitting at a desk, watching tv in code white!!! Stay safe....

For anyone who doesn't like wearing their vest, as long as your agency will allow it, I strongly recommend an external vest carrier.
After 2 yrs of fighting I was able to convince our chief to approve them last year. One of the best work investments I've made at work.No one has greater love than this, to lay down ones life for ones friends - John 15:13

My agency's policy dictates mandatory wearing of a vest. I always wear mine anyway, even though it's uncomfortable as hell. Never know what I may run into.
Hopefully my external carrier will show up soon.
