Heard some of the details today at work...what a fucked up situation...Rachel Lee Coleman, 25, of Sioux Falls has been charged with attempted murder in the first degree, aggravated assault on law enforcement, vehicular battery, driving while intoxicated, felony eluding and felony hit and run, Lincoln County and Minnehaha County states’ attorneys announced Thursday.Coleman was shot by law enforcement after a high-speed chase through western Sioux Falls early Wednesday. Law enforcement said Coleman first rammed into trooper Andrew Steen’s vehicle, then returned to strike him after he had stepped out onto the pavement. That incident took place in the parking lot of a shopping complex at 57th Street and Western Avenue.
Steen, an eight-year-veteran of the Highway Patrol, underwent successful surgery early this morning to relieve pressure on his brain, said Col. Craig Price, superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol. He remains in critical condition.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
