Wake/Funeral for Nassau Cop Killed on LIE to be Held in Ronkonkoma - Sachem, NY Patch
Wake Ronkonkoma FD Sat 7-9, Sun 2-4, 7-9
Funeral St Joseph's RC church in Ronkonkoma noon on Monday.
He responded to a hit & run car accident on the Long Island Expressway. The fleeing vehicle hit another car about 1000 yards away and both the 2nd and 3rd cars were perpendicular to the highway. He was outside of his vehicle talking to the driver of the h&r vehicle when he was struck by a 4th vehicle who didn't see the accident due to the time of day (about 5am) and that the cars involved in the accident didn't have their lights visible for oncoming traffic. the h&r driver was arrested for DWI (.09 BAC), criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, and vehicular manslaughter, for being intoxicated and causing the death or another. The driver that actually hit him wasn't charged. This is the 2nd cop in a short period of time struck by a vehicle in that agency, and the 2nd in the past 2 years fatally struck on the LIE. I think one article said 35 people in 20 years have been struck by cars on the LIE.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
