Losing a friend to brain cancer
Mike Nagosky, one of my friends from my former department, is about to die from brain cancer. Last month I was informed that he came down with severe headaches and went to the hospital. He had a brain tumor. He had the tumor removed and was supposed to make a full recovery. Apparently last week he slipped into a coma, and last night I was told that he has no brain activity, and they will be taking him off of life support.
He is a great guy. While we didn't know each other (he was about 5 years older than I), we both grew up in the same part of Pennsylvania, and his dad was a local police chief whom my dad knows. We became good friends when we found that out.
His twin brother Paul is also an officer at the same department.
It just shows you that you need to live ilfe to the fullest, because you never know. He went from being a healthy and very physically fit guy to dying in the matter of a month. The world would be much cleaner if blind people carried brooms instead of sticks.
At communion, when the priest says "Body of Christ", I say "Thanks, I've been working out", then I grab the cracker and run back to my seat

They've got us surrounded? Good. Now we can fire in any direction. Those bastards won't get away this time.

It is with respect and sadness I wish strength and, in time, re-found happiness to the Nagosky family. The character of their clan suggests nothing less.
Thank you. For sharing this exceptional family with us in their sad time, and my heart aches for you as you're losing your compatriot brother.

It's a terrible way to. Lost my grandpa that way in 2006. He kept his humor till the end however, to the point of asking the nurse for a round of whiskey for him, his sons and his grandsons.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

God speed, Brother.
For the morning will come. Brightly will it shine on the brave and true, kindly upon all who suffer for the cause, glorious upon the tombs of heroes. Thus will shine the dawn.
