Cadillac, MI officer dies from heart attack on duty

Early this morning, an officer of the Cadillac Police Department died while on duty.
Patrolman William Kanitz was found unconscious by his partner and was taken to Cadillac Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 8:00 a.m. this morning.
Deputies from the Wexford County Sheriff's Office and Troopers from the Michigan State Police Post responded to the scene.

Officials are saying it looks as though Kanitz suffered a heart attack.
To cope with the loss of an officer, extra officers from the Michigan State Police Post will be assisting with operation.

Bill was an all around great guy. I graduated with his son and he was a great mentor, father, and police officer. He could make you laugh in the most devastating of situations. We lost a great one day. RIP Bill.
