Atlanta officer end of watch
ATLANTA -- An Atlanta police officer has died of injuries he received when the cruiser he was driving collided with a Grady Hospital ambulance as both vehicles were responding to a call.
Officer Peter Faatz, 29, died Thursday evening in an intensive care unit at Grady Hospital, police said Friday.
He was admitted to the hospital on July 21 with severe head injuries after the ambulance smashed into the passenger side of his squad car. He was the only person in the squad car at the time. Neither of the people in the ambulance was critically injured.
Faatz, who had been with the Atlanta Police Department since April 2005, was responding to a double shooting near Turner Field.
One man was killed in the double shooting and another was injured and taken to Grady.
