RFT can be rough. I've seen a lot of depressed recruits.

Lets face it, healthy normal peole don't kill themselves. And sometimes very sick people can hide how they are feeling.

He may have been excited as hell to be a cop, but if he was "ill" and hiding a serious depression or illness, who would have known.

Suicides don't piss me off anymore, they just make me sad.

This is my two cents. I may get flamed but I dont care.
Testing for police officer is over exaggerated in my own word. A psych test Is B.S. to me. I thought it was cake. It was obvious what they tried to do. If people want to pass it they can easily pass it. Backgrounds can also mean you just didnt get caught for anything. I had someone in the academy admit to taking LSD. Backgrounds is a joke in my word. Its a game. Polygraphs and CVSA's dont prove anything. If he was depressed and knew how to play the game Im sure he could pass it.

My opinion on it though is that there is something more to this.

True, I guess someone who knows how to play it could do that.

I agree on the psych testing.. I'm sure there are a couple wingnuts that get caught, but most people know that they shouldn't mention that they hear voices or like fires, etc.

Backgrounds are tricky and mistakes can be made.

I still think we are pretty good at weeding out the bad apples, before and after they are hired. But again, we can't catch them all.

Maybe it's one of those things that we will never know the answer to. Those are the the cases that piss me off the most, when the deceased is the only one who truly knows what happened. And they take it to the grave. Bummer.

That's the great tragedy of suicide, there are more questions then answers left behind.

It could be as simple (not that anything is simple) as an accidental discharge. Or maybe finding out the job was not what he expected, or he had doubts about his abilities? Sometimes what seems insurmountable, when you are alone late at night/early in the morning, appear trivial in the light of day.

What I do know is there are a lot of people hurting right now - probably more then he realized.

    all of it really smells
    http://www.allpoetry.com/Grunts%20Girl

    We dallied under
    Vine maples and sapling alders
    Searched for lady slippers
    But instead
    Found blackberry riots and
    Desiccated branches

    An old skid road
    Brought ghost ferns and
    Hollows filled with
    Skunk cabbage
    While waves wrapped
    Intricate lacings of weeds
    'Round mule spinners

    His cyanotic eyes
    Were hard enough to make
    The sun turn tail and
    Tender enough to attract me
    To his world of illusion
