Missing Douglas County deputy apparent suicide victim
MINDEN, Nev. The search for a missing Douglas County sheriff's deputy has ended with the discovery of his dead body, an apparent victim of suicide.
The sheriff's office says Deputy Brandon Berry started work at the department on Tuesday. The next day, he left the home he shares with his mother in Carson City to drive to work, and never showed up.
Sheriff's Sergeant Tom Mezzetta said no one had seen or heard from the 22-year-old recruit since then. Deputies found his body seated in his car late this afternoon with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Mezzetta had said earlier that Berry's disappearance was worrisome because he has appeared to be upbeat and excited about his new career.

God bless to officer. I cant understand what made him lead to that decision to do that. I just dont see how a 22 year old would commit suicide even starting a new career. I think there has to be foul play.

Wow something there doesn't add up. It's either fould play invovled, or there is more to this guys story than what is here.

Tony,
I did not know the officer, but my department has had to deal with this situation more then once in the past 2 years.
I also lost someone very dear to me years ago to suicide. It's something that leaves you wondering what you could have said or done differently. Even when you know it may not have changed the outcome, there is a deep sadness that remains.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

You're right, something doesn't add up. But sometimes, you would be surprised. You hear about deeply depressed people putting up a major front to hide their true feelings. Especially as people get older, the signs that were fairly obvious in teenagers aren't as obvious in adults.
Either there is foul play, or this deputy was deeply troubled by something.
My thoughts and prayers also go out to his family and loved ones.Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood.

1st. My thoughts and prayers 10-84 to the family, friends and to the department.
2nd. Police Suicide happens more often than you may think. I believe every LEO should attend "The Trumas of Law Enforcement" class. C.O.P.S (Concerns Of Police Survivors) the class is very educational. Although, it is a very sad class and is a couple of days long, it decusses the issues of Police Officer Suicide.*A GIRL COP*

Without knowing more details, it is really hard to understand this. It does seem odd. I wonder if it could have been a case of a rookie playing with his new gun and making a big mistake. I recall a call where a hotel called because they couldn't locate the night security officer. Officers looked everywhere and found his body in an empty room on the toilet. He appeared to be playing with his handgun and shot himself on the toilet. Tragic and stupid.

There was also a case of a Florida deputy who shot himself at his own birthday party - he thought the weapon wasn't loaded.
Very sad.

The county next to me had a deputy shoot himself in the leg while driving his car to the rang to qualify. No matter what, this officer is gone and that is sad.

That's where my vote would go. But what worries me more is this: Tuesday was the 10th. He went missing on Wednesday the 11th (if I'm getting my dates right) This story was printed on the 13th? After less than TWO days investigating the mysterious death of a COP, the agency spokesperson says that basically the case is closed. WTF? Either the spokesperson for the agency should be disciplined, the agency itself fucked up by jumping to conclusions or else they know more than they are telling. Something is not right here in my opinion.

Sad indeed, but the family still needs to know exactly what happened and it sounds to me like someone is not doing their job by doing a thorough investigation. BTW, what the hell is the agency doing investigating the death of their own officer? It should be the State Attorney General's Office! Maybe I am just reading the news accounts wrong.

How in the heck did they hire someone who is "at risk?" I thought that's what the psych test is supposed to weed out.

I agree with all of you in regards to it being a little odd. Either there was some foul play involved, it was a complete accident, or he hid his true feelings really well...
