Bathtub test

During a visit to a local mental institution, a visitor
asked the Director what criteria was used to
determine whether or not a patient should be
institutionalized.




"Well," said the Director, "we fill a bathtub
with water. Then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup
and a bucket to the prospective patient, and
we ask him or her to empty the bathtub."




"Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal
person would use the bucket to empty the bathtub
because it's larger than the spoon or the teacup."

"No," replied the Director, "A 'normal' person
would simply remove the plug in the bottom of
the bathtub."


"Would you like a bed beside a window?!"
