Famous quotes guessing game. Post an informative quote (one that at least gives enough text to formulate a clue to the author), then allow others to guess who the author was.
I'll kick it off...
Who said that?"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members...
It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."

Of thy chaste breast and quiet mind

Ideas are far more powerful than guns. We don't allow our enemies to have guns, why should we allow them to have ideas?

Precisely correct!
She also said: “We must stay the course” in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and asked for more troops to finish the job... We have to exert all of our efforts militarily”

Sun Tzu, "The Art of War"You can prevent your opponent from defeating you through defense, but you cannot defeat him without taking the offensive.
It may be read here if you don't have a copy.

Men often oppose a thing merely because they have had no agency in planning it, or because it may have been planned by those whom they dislike.

The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving on.

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

General John Stark
Bit of bio I hope nobody minds.
Who said...After serving with distinction throughout the rest of the war, Stark retired to his farm in Derryfield. It has been said that of all the Revolutionary War generals, Stark was the only true Cincinnatus because he truly retired from public life at the end of the war. In 1809, a group of Bennington veterans gathered to commemorate the battle. General Stark, then aged 81, was not well enough to travel, but he sent a letter to his comrades, which closed "Live free or die. Death is not the worst of evils." The motto Live Free or Die became the New Hampshire state motto in 1945.
It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.
