Not really a joke, but best place to post.

A car company can move it's factories to Mexico and claim it's
a free market.

A toy company can out source to a Chinese subcontractor and
claim it's a free market.

A shoe company can produce its shoes in south east Asia and
claim it's a free market.

A major bank can incorporate in Bermuda to avoid taxes and
claim it's a free market.

We can buy HP Printers made in Mexico. We can buy shirts made
in Bangladesh. We can purchase almost anything we want from 20 different countries.

BUT, heaven help the senior citizens who dare to buy
their prescription drugs from a Canadian or Mexican pharmacy. That's called un-American!

And you think the pharmaceutical companies don't have
a powerful lobby? Think again!

Humor in truth. It is so true. I have watched my parents who were/are hard working people that believed in paying their own way, not borrowing money, paying as they went or doing without, raising and educating me and being independant citizens to end in retirement using their hard earned savings to maintain their health and the drug companies.

A pet Peeve of mine too > Think about it....every time you sit in a doctor's office waiting ..and waiting..to see him... while a pharmaceutical sales person is with him/her "selling" the use of his/her drugs to the doctor ....A friend of mine's daughter works for a major pharmaceutical company, you would not believe her salary or her expense budget..for entertaining doctors/etc...

Free market my butt!!!!!! They dont want to admit just how much they are jacking their prices up. And they say its for research. Maybe it is, but all the other countries are gaining off our prices and research.

It's the same with over-the-counter versus prescription.

I used to cross over to TJ (that's Tijuana to us SoCal folks) and buy motrin for my migraines, because you could buy without a prescription.

Only - and I mean ONLY- thing that's good right now is that both Wal-Mart and Target have a $4 generic program. If you haven't seen it yet, check their websites, they both have all of their $4 meds listed in their 'pharmacy' section of their websites.

You're right, it's not a free market. The only reason drugs are cheap in other countries is because they have price controls. The drugs sold overseas are almost always sold at a huge loss. But a tiny source of income is better than no income, so the pharmacuetical companies play along. We pay the cost of research, and the rest of the world benefits.

But the only alternative is to give up new drugs altogether. So which will it be, pay extra for drugs or not have any drugs at all?
