NEW ANTI-CRIME PROGRAM UNVEILED BY MAYOR
The mayor has announced his new program to fight crime, calling it "Get Soft on Crime". The new program will emphasize building a deeper understanding of life issues between police officers and the underprivileged youth of the streets. With this goal in mind, the mayor wants the city's officers to appear more approachable and friendly and less the representatives of a repressive social and legal system. The officers will not patrol the streets in uniforms with badges or guns, radios, pepper spray or tazers as all of these items are viewed by the minorities as symbols of harsh authoritarianism. they will be dressed in baggy pants worn low on the hips, over-sized t-shirts with "The Man" stenciled in small letters over the left breast pocket and rubber thong sandals. MP3s with rap music will also be supplied.
The mayor is asking police officers to volunteer for this program. As incentives, he is offering a 10% increase in pay, extended vacation time and a 25% increase in widow's and orphan's benefits. He is certain that the police will respond enthusiastically and that the program will be a resounding success.
