You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and
two small children.

around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises

Well, that's not enough information to answer the
question!
Does the man look poor or oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him
to attack?
Could we run away?
What does my wife think?
What about the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the
knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about this situation?
Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway?
What kind of message does this send to society and to my
children?
Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be
content just to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family
get away while he was stabbing me?
Should I call 9-1-1?
Why is this street so deserted?
We need to raise taxes, have paint and weed day and make
this happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
This is all so confusing!
I need to debate this with some friends for few days and
try to come to a consensus.

Think about it child! If you are armed, the only way anyone can deal with you is through conversing with you to persuade you to see their point. They can't threaten you or coerce you are force you to do anything you don't want to.

Col. Colt once said that God made man....but Col. Colt had made them equal. It is a bit dated and hokie but in a very real sense....it is true.

If you never even have to touch the weapon at any time in your life, you have given yourself the gift of true freedom from fear and violence.

A gun only works if one is willing and able to use it; if I had one I'd take so long thinking about whether to use it that the terrorist would take it from me and use it on me and a bunch of other people as well. And then people will post jokes about me on LEF.

Ah Jenna, ya got to think. As a Southerner, I've learned that Liberals don't think. They take polls and talk to focus groups before they act. Usually it takes days to get a consenus; by that time, you've been robbed, raped and left alone to call 911 and bitch to the police why they didn't do something.

As a Southerner, we call 911 and tell the police to come pick-up the pieces.

I agree with that sentiment as hurtful as it may be to some. In this day, especially if one is entrusted with protecting a child, it is irresponsible to not have a plan of defence. IMHO.
