Vintage Ads

Take a look at these hilarious, non-pc, and in some cases down right dangerous old ads.

The Volkswagon ad was pretty funny
'Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a
delusional, illogical liberal minority, and rabidly
promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which
holds forth the proposition that it is entirely
possible to pick up a turd by the clean end!'

"The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."
The views, opinions, stupid off the cuff comments, mouthy, obnoxious, thoughtless, etc etc etc are not always or even some of the time the belief of my department, so bugger off!

Until the late 60's, the water in Europe was generally unsafe to drink; that where bottled water got its start. In france, wine was the choice; watered down for children uneter 16. In Germany, it was BEER, (liquid bread) If you were not so well off, or lived on farms, etc., beer was a part of your diet at meals. Not talking about litres, but a glass or two. When German immigrants came to the US, their customs came with then, thus Blatz's ad. Up to the end of WWII, kids in the bigger northern cities of working class families used to run down to the local bar for a "bucket of beer" for the old man's dinner when he came home from the factory, or whatever. (yours truly included) BTW, Blatz wasn't a bad beer.

They're actually still recommending beer for new mothers who are breast feeding... which is how I'm reading that ad. (The rest of the stuff about water vs beer is legit, too, of course!) It's supposed to help bring the milk in or some such...

Eh, they don't actually recommend that anymore. Doctors are worried, of course, about the alcohol transmitting to baby through the breast milk, and really, it doesn't help milk production at all.

I don't know; they recommended it to my wife last year! I'm not saying they said "go out and drink a 12 pack" -- but they did suggest having a beer.
