I've often had follow up questions to current AAC threads that I wished I could have asked but didn't feel deserved a whole new thread. So I voted yes for that reason, but I see both sides here.

You should be able to ask follow up questions in AAC, even if you didn't start the thread.

The only concern is when someone without the actual education, training, and experience gives the advice.

Like I said earlier, anyone with questions about qualifications or the hiring process should be welcome to post in the background section.

I guess I don't see this as a problem on this site. Pretty good group.

While I am not a moderator, please don't ask them to do anymore than they are by having to "approve" every post in AAC.

In other forums I've seen, when that happens a dozen guys in blue uniforms swoop in and correct the situation forthwith

I do like to ask follow-ups, whether they have anything to do with the original subject or not. I guess I shouldn't have mentioned that

You can tell him yourself - He knows where I live (or at least has lots and lots of clues)

His bedside manor may need some work, but he's just extremely proud of what he does, I think. Can't fault a guy too much for that.

Then why bother having an ask a cop section in the first place? We have a general section where you can post anything you want & freely participate. Ask a cop is ask a cop, not ask a dog walker, bartender, mechanic.

Of course you do. I honestly do value the opinions of law abiding citizens who want to interact with law enforcement. We have lots of sections on this site to do just that.

Yeah, but there's no "Ask a Wantabe" section

But I guess if you added a "Ask a Wantabe" section, you'd also have to add a "Ask an Impersonator" section, "Ask a ThinksHeIs" section, "Ask a ShouldBeButIWasScrewed" section, and before long it just gets all out of hand.

Follow up questions may be asked in a new thread. So its not a big deal.

I voted YES, non-verifieds should be allowed to post.

I understand the arguments others have made against it. Most of the points have been negated by the Verified LEO tags. It's easy enough for the person with the original question to see who's a Cop and who's not.

Even with a Verified tag, there's no guarantee that the OP will get totally accurate information. Not to say a Verified would knowingly lie, just that not all of us know everything. We're fallible, too.

I voted YES to allow greater participation in the forums. Participation is the key to this site being successful.

If a non-LEO posts incorrect or false information, the verifieds will correct him. This makes for lively, INTERESTING discussions.

Remember WHY this site was started in the first place...

To be an alternative to other sites that were too rigid, stifling, and most of all... BORING.

+1 I really don't mind one way or the other. If anything gets out of hand, our mods will handle it.

This is the guy that I think should answer all our firearms questions. Only him. (Note the "Pistol Range" sign in the background - Be very afraid)

It is better to be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

Ok here is what we have decided to do in the Ask-A-Cop area...

Only Verified LEO's are able to answer the question asked and ANYONE can respond to that answer or add their opinion of the answer given. I think this allows participation from everyone and still keeps the name of the room true to its name

Additionally, all job related questions should be asked in the Background Questions/Hiring Process area. These questions can be answered by anyone due to non-verifieds currently going through the application process may have more knowledge than Verified LEO's would.

We are trying to make this a user friendly site and keep it fair for everyone

And you are doing a great job of it. If the above doesn't make everyone happy. Nothing will. Good work on finding the reasonable solution to the question.
