LEF Charity
Considering the enormous number of members LEF has obtained, I was thinking such a great group could find a good cause to support. I've seen a lot of sites that have donation areas, and they support a group or organized charity with the donations. Any feedback? Just came to me as I was looking at a bunch of police charity events, like the police bike ride through Virginia to the DC officer memorial. Toss out some ideas, and site owners maybe you could say if you think this is doable?

IDEAS SO FAR
Fund for families of officers killed in line of duty
St. Baldricks - fund to fight childhood cancer

The COPS (concerns of police survivors) would be another good organization to consider donating to.

I like this idea!
Just because your sign off after you're shift is done, doesn't mean that it's over and put blinders on. You're a cop 24/7 wether you like it or not. If thats something you can't handle, you should find a new line of work!

Remember who you are, and where you came from. That way you never get a big head.
May those that lost their lives in 9-11 RIP, for the things you did not many could do. You left so many behind so that you could save so few. For now we stand strong as one, and will not look back till the fight is done. (me)

05-22-06, 06:14 PM #11This could really work out, if we can come to a decision on where to donate and how to collect it. If you guys want to toss out ideas of good causes to donate to, I'll make a poll tomorrow evening or sometime when we have enough ideas and we can vote. Once we get our ideas organized, we'll see if it's doableMembers: 772

05-22-06, 08:39 PM #12I think this is such a neat idea. Regarding the collecting, would you please consider those who don't or choose not to use credit cards? Okay, I have one credit card, but I can't find it (on purpose). If I can't pay with cash or check (when necessary) I don't buy. Keeps my husband out of trouble too as those MN Vikings tickets cost a fortune.

If we can agree on doing this, I would be willing to collect checks via mail. I'll even send email receipts and keep records that I'll share with everyone so you know I'm not skimming a cut off the top

Any ideas for a cause/organization/group to donate to? I'll keep a running list on the first post when I get input from anyone.

Before LEF starts giving away money.......
...... I imagine they would like to see SUPPORTING MEMBER
in pretty green letters above everybody's user name here!

That's a great idea, Katie - if we could get a separate tag for those who donate to the charity, that would raise awareness of it and increase site pride
Probably increase membership if people see us doing good things.

I recommend doing something for families of LEO's killed or seriously injured in the line of duty

Excellent idea Katie - I'd definitely be willing to go with that.
