I have got the chat room back up and everyone should be able to access it. If for some reason you not able to get in I would suggest you do the following..
- Try to uninstall any other Java you installed previously
- And install "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9")...

I didn't have to uninstall Java on my computer. I just went to www.java.com and downloaded and installed that. It just updated whatever version I had and works nicely now.
That's what I had to do/did too. :)

Try emptying your browser's cache (or temp internet files) then close all of your browsers. Then reopen. See if that helps.

See what settings your java is on.
I was able to access the chat on either High or Medium security.
When I was just getting the gray box I had my java permissions disabled. (Sorry Signal I forgot I did that.) But I wasn't able to download the java that signal suggested until I enabled java. So this might not be what's wrong with yours. You said you downloaded the java runtime environment and it didn't give you any issues. Correct?
(Well on my bottom right of the forum it is a world image icon and I think yours would be too.) Whatever that icon is on your computer is where you need to check your java settings.
