The son of a former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard claims he is being discriminated against after being snubbed by the Republican Party
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The son of a former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard claims he is being discriminated against after being snubbed by the Republican Party of Palm Beach County. At 19, Derrick Black was elected to a seat on the local Republican Party's executive committee. Then it was discovered his father is former KKK grand wizard Don Black and that his mother was married to another former KKK grand wizard, David Duke.Black hoped to be sworn in Wednesday night, but Republican Party of Palm Beach County Chairman Sid Dinerstein said Black was ineligible to serve, not because of his associations, but because he was one of a handful of elected committee members who did not sign the party loyalty oath when they filed as candidates.
"This was passed this year with the intention by the state party of selectively choosing who would be allowed on the county committees," Black said during the swearing-in ceremony. "I know for a fact there are people in this state who are discriminated against."That's when he was interrupted by Dinerstein."You're factually inaccurate and you're out of order," Dinerstein said.Black did not take the oath and said he is considering whether to take legal action.
