Iraqi journalist throws shoes at Bush.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/1..._n_150832.html
Wow!! Bush came close to getting hit with a couple of flying shoes today when an Iraqi journalist took off his shoes and flung them at Bush while he was standing at a podium during a joint news conference he was holding with the Iraqi Prime Minister. I wonder what the Iraqis will do with this nut case?

Considering we've convicted a would-be terrorist for hiding explosives in his shoes, I think the Secret Service showed great restraint by not lighting the reporter up like a Christmas tree.

Bush's retort: "These kinds of things happen in a free and democratic society..."
Absolutely priceless.

It was funny watching him talk about it after the fact. He said he found it funny and the Secret Service didn't dogpile the guy because Bush pretty much told them not to with hand gestures. Given the circumstances, it's only funny because neither of the shoes exploded.

In modern Islamic cultures, striking a person or image with a shoe is akin to spitting on someone here in the states. It's meant to be an insult . . . provided you can actually make contact.
Guy would make a compelling starter for the Seattle Mariner's pitching squad. He throws straighter and better.
Meanwhile, the reporters around him looked ready to pound his scrawny ass for the insult.

As some of you can attest to, I'm no fan of Bush's. I don't hate him, either. I just disagree with him more often than not.
But I think so far he's handled this shoe-throwing incident with class and style. Clearly the liberal media was chomping at the bit to wait for him to loose his cool and he didn't give them the satisfaction. He played it off- and from what I hear- even kept his SS agent from pulling him out the door.
