Officer Involved In Louima Attack Asks For Pardon
By: NY1 News
A disgraced former city police officer has joined the ranks of felons looking for forgiveness before President George W. Bush leaves office.
Justin Volpe has sent a letter to the Justice Department, requesting his sentence be commuted.
Volpe is one of the officers convicted in the 1997 attack on Abner Louima in a Brooklyn precinct house. Volpe has served 12 years of a 30 year sentence.
Two of the other officers involved had their sentences overturned. Another was released in 2007 after serving five years.
Volpe's supporters say they are looking for a reduced sentence, not a complete pardon.
