Our new CINC attended quite a few gatherings last night, but as This Ain't Hell reports, the Salute To Heroes Inaugural Ball was not one of them. For the first time in 56 years, a newly-inaugurated president has not attended the ball begun by President Eisenhower. 14 presidents later, a snub. Go check it out over there- FORTY-EIGHT MoH recipients were in attendance. People- that's HALF of the recipients that are still alive, and darn well nearly all that are physically able to attend events.

I suppose it could be tough to pass up Kanye West at the MTV Ball for some worn out heroes.

Although one could not hardly expect the new president to make every inaugural ball, being the commander in chief it is not unreasonable to expect an appearance with the military, especially its heroes. That would certainly be a higher priority than MTV. In fact the last 14 presidents evidently made it to this event so it is not unreasonable to expect this one to make it.

I'm not a democrat. I'm not a republican. My views span the spectrum of conservative to liberal. I'm not sure what all the balls were that Obama had to choose from. But you just DO NOT turn your nose to our military heroes! That should have been one of the higher priorities.....for ANY president, regardless of politics. Like others have said, MTV should NOT be a top priority. Has there been any kind of statement or response from the Obama administration about why he did not go to the military ball?

B.H.O. is a president elected via popular culture.
Unfortunately the military doesn't fit that and MTV does.
Hes been doing it since the campaign and will continue down the road as president in breaking traditions.

Maybe the BET Ball was just a little too 'off the chain' and time jus tgot away from him... I almost threw up when I heard one of the talking heads say "We now go to 'Trisha Takinawa' at the BET ball."
