Pledge mentions God? Fine. Pledge while you see a picture of the President? Conservative outrage time
A parent in the Clark County School District of Las Vegas, Henderson area reported today that his son, who is in 1st grade, came home yesterday saying that he didn't want to go back to school anymore. When asked why, the boy said that during the Pledge of Allegiance the teacher put up a large image of Obama next to the flag.
Thinking that the boy might be exaggerating, the man asked his son if he was sure, and suggested that by "large" he might mean an 8x10 photo of the president. The boy apparently said "No, it is a large picture of Obama and when we are done, the teacher turns off the image."
The same thing was not done for President Bush last year.
After investigating this morning, the other parent reported that what the boy said was true.
At least three of the five classrooms have an overhead projector and as the children stand to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, the teacher turns on the classroom overhead and a full body image of Obama, with six U.S. flags behind him, comes up about 4 feet away from the flag that hangs on the wall. The screen is apparently around five feet by six feet.
In the image, President Obama appears to be staring straight out with no facial expression, just a serious look. All of the kids in each class faced the President, instead of the flag that hangs in the corner.
Local parents are up in arms over this situation. Teachers clearly do not realize the gravity of what they are doing.

I have no issue with having a photo of the President in the classroom, but to have the children face anything other than the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance is wrong.

Maybe Obama should just sign a decree putting his picture on every denomination of money. This of course would be just the first step towards Obamanation.

Wow! That is extremely wrong, no matter who the president is.

That's more than a little disturbing. The teachers should be disciplined for doing that.

That's a crock of shit. North Koreans do that, Chinese do it, and other communist countries do it. And by fucking god, I'll lead my own fucking revolution and die before I'll do it for ANY president, especially that asswipe.

Just to play devil's advocate........two of you have already said you would, but would the rest you still be upset if a teacher had used an image of Bush like this before the election? I agree with Buttercup. A presidential image doesn't bother me, but making that the focus INSTEAD of the flag is where I have issue with it.

We'll see how much they like him after his "stimulus plan" plays havoc on the economy. He's doing the same things FDR did in the 30's that kept us in the depression. Hell, I doubt any member of Congress actually read that 700+ page bill before they voted for it.

I remember people were pretty excited when Carter became President.

700+ pages, HELL, its over 1300 now and counting. Nancy Mussolini wants it passed this afternoon so she can head of to Italy (at govt expense, or course) Pelosi is hoping to lead a delegation to Europe; there's a meeting with the Pope and an award from an Italian legislative group.

The truth is when we split the difference. It ended up 1,071 pages. Even Democratic Senators are admitting they're going to vote for it w/o reading it.

It's down right scary that the idiots we put into office, are blindly voting for a bill. Sends a message saying they'll give Obama whatever he wants....

Yes, I would be upset if school kids were pledging allegiance to Bush, Reagan, or even Newt Gingrich or Jesus Christ - But not much chance of that happening, you have to admit.
This is supposed to be a nation of law, not of Deity, Royalty, or popular personalities.
Yeah, RDS, every one of those congress people voting for a bill that they didn't have time to read is committing malfeasance in office, as far as I'm concerned. I think their states should recall them all and hold special elections to replace them.
There should also be a period of public review and comment before taking a vote - Why are they afraid to post it on Congress' web site and at least wait a few days for the public to read it too.
Did your hear about our big huge stimulus check coming out of this? $400!!! Whoopee!!! It's good to know that the self-proclaimed "party of the people" are giving 99% of the stimulus to big corporations and government contractors instead of careless individuals
Don't spend it all in one place - The bill just passed the Senate too.
The ONLY thing I've heard that I agree with 100% is increasing NASA's budget, COPS and energy research, all of which Bush cut.
