Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee wants the GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice. Steele told Fox's Chris Wallace that it was "important" to reach out to those voters.
WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.
STEELE: Yes.
WALLACE: Does the GOP needs to do a better job of reaching out to people who hold those views?
STEELE: I think -- I think that's an important opportunity for us, absolutely. Within our party we do have those who have that view as well as outside and my partnership with Christy Todd Whittman was an effort to build a bridge between moderates and conservatives.

Evidently the lessons of the Bush years haven't been learned. We are not going to convince liberals to vote Republican. We can't out Democrat the Democrat party. We need to play to our strengths, conservatism.
I see the GOP is still riding the Fail Boat.

How about strengthing our base before we do anything else?
Here is something maybe Mr. Steele should think about before he makes any decisions that involve the Republican Party.

Step 1: Get new leadership in the GOP
Step 2: Try to do things the same way the old leadership did things
Step 3: Make Conservatives think about staying home again in the future.
I applauded Steele's election when it happened because he was new leadership. I expected a new direction. I don't suspect that I am alone in this belief. He better figure this out before it is too late.

(cough) Log Cabin Republicans (cough).
Just a gentle reminder that the Republican Party needs to discern where it will be. There are a few gay conservatives who identify with Republicans and there are a few pro-choice folks who are conservative in other aspects. To simply state that in order to be conservative, one must shun homosexuals or pro-choice folks, means you exclude members of the Repblican party.
Perhaps it's time for the right of center conservatives to form their own party if the Republicans do not fit their needs.
Just some thoughts.
