Gingrich warns of third political party in 2012

(CNN) — Former House speaker Newt Gingrich is warning of a third party mutiny in 2012 if Republicans don’t figure out a way to shape up.
“If the Republicans can’t break out of being the right wing party of big government, then I think you would see a third party movement in 2012,” Gingrich said Tuesday. The speech, to a group of students at the College of the Ozarks in Missouri, was recorded by Springfield TV station KY3.
But Gingrich, bemoaning President Barack Obama’s “monstrosity of a budget,” acknowledged that Republicans are partially to blame for the escalation in federal spending.
"Remember, everything Obama’s doing, Bush started last year,” he said. “If you’re going to talk about big spending, the mistakes of the Bush administration last year are fully as bad as the mistakes of Obama’s first two, three months.”
Gingrich told the students that the current governmental system “is so sick, so out of touch and so arrogant that you’re going to have a nationwide rebellion at the polls of people in both parties who are just fed up.”
“You can do a Facebook page, you can Twitter,” he said. “I Twitter right now and I think we’re at like, I don’t know, 18,000 or 20,000 thousand people that follow my Twitter, which I have to say I think is nuts. But there are ways to communicate, you’re not trapped by CBS news.”
Gingrich has repeatedly said that he will decide in early 2011 whether he plans to seek the White House in 2012.

Go Newt go! I don't know about the success of a third party but there definitely needs to be a revolution in the GOP...

A third party would be a huge mistake.

Republicans and a conservative third party will dilute each other's votes, unless the election laws are changed to allow everyone a 1st and 2nd choice instead of a single vote.

I don't know. Remember how successful Ross Perot was until he flipped out? I think it's part of the natural progression of politics. Parties become so strongly identified with a certain ideology that they lose their appeal, they have to reappear under a new name to regenerate interest.

I've always liked Newt, it's a shame that politics has turned into such a cage fight that good people don't want to get involved.

I've always liked Newt, it's a shame that politics has turned into such a cage fight that good people don't want to get involved.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the emergence of a conservative third party, and the GOP being folded into the centrist wing of the DNC but I don't see that happening realistically. We blew a good opportunity to level the GOP and rebuild it with conservatism but the election of Steele to the head post was a vote for status quo. We will need a really good charismatic leader for 2012 and a reformation of the primary process (close it to GOP registered only) to succeed. I'm not holding my breath.

I'm watching President Obama's "Town Hall" live from Strasbourg, France at the moment. Everyone in the world needs a higher standard of living and the US and Russia need to toss our nukes. Also our carbon footprint is much too large...this over the past 3 minutes.

2012 is important, whatever is left then. Something more immediate would be better. When is your congressman up for election?

Additionally, Botswana needs more trade financing for their diamond market collapse.

All that will do is split the Republican Party and ensure a Democrat gets elected. That's why we can thank Nader for allowing Bush to beat Gore. W/o him, Gore would have been president.
