I thought that our members might be interested in knowing where everyone is coming from in our political discussions. Having said that, I found a simple little personal political quiz. I would encourage everyone to post their results, and I'll create a poll to show the results because everyone likes polls right?
The Quiz can be found here:
Advocates for Self Government
The results are described here:
Political Philosophies
Left (Liberal)
Liberals usually embrace freedom of choice in personal matters, but tend to support significant government control of the economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net" to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations, defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.
Libertarian
Libertarians support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.
Centrist
Centrist prefer a "middle ground" regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice. Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind, tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.
Right (Conservative)
Conservatives tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional values." They oppose excessive government control of business, while endorsing government action to defend morality and the traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market economy, and endorse strong law enforcement.
Statists (Big Government)
Statists want government to have a great deal of power over the economy and individual behavior. They frequently doubt whether economic liberty and individual freedom are practical options in today's world. Statists tend to distrust the free market, support high taxes and centralized planning of the economy, oppose diverse lifestyles, and question the importance of civil liberties.
I copied and pasted my results here and I encourage others to do the same. I'm not looking to label, but I am looking to see where everyone is coming from. I am also wagering that some people are surprised with their result.
My result:

I was right on the line of crossing into the Libertarian quadrant. Which didn't surprise me as I tell everyone I tend to be Conservative/Libertarian, but my Libertarian is spelled with a little "L".

Actually I consider myself a progressive. The quiz doesn't even address my main concerns, about foreign policy, healthcare, education, and the environment. And the wording of many of the questions about personal behavior are overly extreme and simplistic, leading me to answer "maybe" instead of "yes" as I might if they were more nuanced and less extreme.

Centrist. But then again I read too much into these quizzes.
Government should not censor speech, press, media, or internet - Normally I would agree but what about in time of war or in a case where no censorship would endanger our security or military? I gave it a maybe.
There should be no laws regarding sex for consenting adults - What about prostitution? Gave this one a maybe too
Military service should be voluntary. There should be no draft - Except in time of emergency - maybe.
I think most of my other answers would have put me more conservative.*************************"It wouldn't take much for me to up and run...to another life somewhere in the sun."
