Do you think the US debt ceiling will be raised by midnight on August 2?
I think all sides are bluffing, and our very responsible elected leaders are going to reach some kind of a compromise by midnight on Aug. 2 and raise the debt ceiling rather than destroy the US economy.

What do you think?

Smoke and mirrors. The only thing guaranteed is that the middle class will take it in ass without lube when DC is done with this.

The only warranted outcome is that the President will force his party to do whatever reduces damage to his re-election campaign.
The press coverage will continue to talk about how the Republicans are calling for "Draconian" cuts even though the budget is slated to increase by 7% per year.I'm your huckleberry...

I don't think anything will pass for several weeks yet, and that will just be a bandaid until the next budget.

It's just a show. Both parties are holding out until the last minute for drama's sake. Then they can say they had to make the decision for the people, take credit for saving the universe and get a vote.

doesn't matter what they do the U.S's credit rating is going to drop after this showing anyway. I still don't understand the "we won't be able to borrow to pay our bills" speach I keep hearing. Guess thats why I'm not in politics.

It looks like they might have a deal.

Could it be that politicians will save us from the very crisis they created?

The House is going to vote on the debt ceiling deal at 6:45 pm EST. It sounds like the vote will be close, with both the Progressive Caucus and the Tea Party members voting against the deal.

I wonder how many members of Congress even had time to read the fine print before the vote, given how many times it changed up until the last minute.
