Won't do a damn thing or make a bit of difference. They are going to play with numbers and cook books to make it look like something has changed.
We need a clean slate of reformers elected. Until then? Meh.That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

I agree Xiphos. They are going to move numbers around and then come up and say "Look how great a job we did!". They all need to go, we need people in office that actually give a damn about the country and not their own pocketbooks

This. They'll do enough to avoid the automatic cuts. They won't address the real issues; they'd lose too many votes.
A local commentator had a good idea, for a starting point here. Push back Social Security retirement, increase revenue by allowing the Bush tax cuts to sunset, and reduce some of the mortgage deduction.
Not totally sure how a lot of that would actually effect things. Maybe wouldn't do anything.
But we HAVE to change our federal budget. We need cuts, and probably painful cuts in programs. I think there's a lot to be said for a much simpler tax scheme aimed at allowing people to generally keep more of their paycheck, because I think that'll boost the economy more than anything else.
And I just really, really doubt that anyone in the current structure is willing to do the job.Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

If they want a better budget deal... pick 10 people at random from the heartland and let them figure it out...chances are they have more common sense and have no political ambitions that will just get in the way. Allowing the tax cuts to sunset -raise them, would increase the financial burdens on us, and those who would use the money to create jobs. Reducing the mortgage deduction would also take more money out of our pockets. This is only going to stifle consumer spending and job creation.
Here's how we can fix this mess.
Axe income taxes and implement The Fair Tax. We would conservatively create 10% growth in our economy. We would become the world's business tax haven and would have more available jobs than people to fill them. This is a revenue neutral proposition that doesn't require cuts in government spending.
I could recommend some federal spending I'd be happy to see disappear too. It's a simple fact the federal government is spending too much money.
Nobody in congress or the White House has the guts to actually do any of this though. They gain too much with the status quo. That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

If the Dems were serious about this, they would NEVER have appointed Patty Murry as Vice-Chair.....and Kerry is also a loser. Murry is my senator and an all around dull knife.

I have to agree with the others. This team is worthless and nothing but fluff.
The appointments of John Kerry and Patty Murray, two of the most useless people on the hilll, proves such.'Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a

I don't think they're likely to come up with a better budget deal either. But their deliberations would make a good Survivor-style reality show.

They will accomplish nothing, solve nothing and in the end, we'll be stuck with the same steaming, smelly bucket of crap we have now. Anything with John Kerry on it is doomed to fail.

They were set up to fail. Neither party wanted to succeed, and neither party wanted to compromise. I used to be opposed to term limits; now I'm kind of thinking a one term limit might be a good idea. That way, they might actually do the damn job they get elected for rather than immediately start their next election campaign right after polls close on election day.
Hell, maybe we ought to bring embezzlement or fraud charges against Congress. They were elected to do a job, and they haven't done it. But they've taken the paychecks to the bank...Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.
