The American bald eagle is a majestic emblem of freedom, but even this glorious creature can use a little help from time to time.
Multiple Cicero police officers in Indiana flew into action when dispatchers put out the call that an injured eagle was spotted near a highway. The first officers on the scene couldn’t spot the bird of prey, but Officer Barker kept an eye out and successfully located and rescued the eagle, which was safely transported back to police headquarters.
Soon after, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Fish and Wildlife transported the eagle to a wildlife rehabilitation center. However, the animal later died from its extensive injuries, apparently sustained in a collision with a vehicle at a high rate of speed, according to the Cicero P.D.
