Mother’s Day is supposed to be a day of celebration, but for Olivia, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, the day marked a series of unfortunate events. First a thief stole her e-bike, which was her form of transportation to and from appointments while she sought treatment for stage 4 breast cancer. Two days later, Olivia suffered a stroke.
Fortunately, her lucked turned around, thanks to friends’ generosity and the determination of Kansas City Police Officer JP Young, who promised he’d never give up on locating the missing bike. True to his word, a month later he returned the bike with a smile after arresting the suspect. In the interim, Olivia’s friends purchased a new bike. Unfortunately, it was assembled incorrectly. With the old one back in her hands, Olivia hoped to sell it to raise funds to repair the new one. According to a KCPD social media post in July, a member of a volunteer organization that maintains local trails made the repairs and now she’s off pedaling again.
