According to recent media reports, an Idaho art gallery owner has run afoul of the law by serving alcohol dur- ing a burlesque show. For those unfamiliar with the term, a burlesque show is kind of like a strip club except no one actually gets totally naked. Anne McDonald, owner of Visual Arts Collective in Garden City, Idaho, was fined after two undercover police officers were served alcohol during the show. It’s unclear if it was a sting operation or if the cops were just out on the town. Under Idaho law, alcohol can not be served where “indecent activities” are taking place, according to Courthouse News. Theofficers reported that “the employ- ees of the Visual Arts Collective did nothing to prevent the exposure to viewing by others of the portion of some of the female performers’ breasts below the top of the areola or the cleft of their buttock in violation of Idaho Code Section 23-614,” according to court docu- ments. The venue settled in court, paying an $8000 fine, reports Boise Public Radio, but is now suing the state, claiming that the law is obscure, out- dated and a clear violation of the Constitution. Does burlesque even qualify as porn? Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Cop gets pissed, goes on Facebook, rants, raves and barks at the moon and is subsequently terminated. People just can’t seem to get their heads around the fact that so-called social me- dia platforms like Facebook are broadcast entities – just like FOX or CNN. In Alabama recently, a Geneva County Sheriff’s corporal, who was demoted following an investigation over a racially inflammatory Facebook post about the killing of police officers in Dallas, has since resigned. The sheriff’s office said the corporal submitted his resignation to the Geneva County Sheriff’s and it was accepted. But the corporal initially denied writing the post and for good reason. “Black lives matter can kiss my white @$# . . . you want a war? Come and get it.” With a lot of law enforce- ment leaders talking about de-escalation, many on so- cial media are going the other way. The corporal initially blamed the post on a hacker but after an investigation conducted with assistance from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency it was determined that there was no hacker. “I was hacked!” just isn’t very believable as far as excuses for angry web posts go Again – a good rule of thumb is to never post anything you wouldn’t scream out loud in public, among total strangers.
