In Kansas, a 70-year-old guy knocked off a bank be- cause he said he’d rather be in jail than continue to live with his wife. Lawrence John Ripple pleaded guilty recently to last September’s robbery of the Bank of Labor. Ripple was released on bond after he was charged in September. He was ac- companied to court by his wife. Ripple pleaded guilty without an agreement with prosecutors. According to the Miami Herald, the robbery was captured on surveillance video. Ripple handed a note to the teller that read, “I have a gun, give me money,” according to court docu- ments. The teller handed over $2,924. Ripple, who should have been running to the getaway car, simply sat down in the bank lobby. When a bank security guard approached him, Rip- ple explained his behavior. When questioned by po- lice and FBI agents, Ripple said that he and his wife had an argument earlier in the day and he said he “no longer wanted to be in that situation.” Ripple said he wrote out his robbery note in front of his spouse before he com- mitted a crime with the in- tention of getting away from the wife. Dumb crook of the month R RPD dispatch re- ceived a call from an unknown female, who wanted to report that her friend was stuck in a chimney and needing help. Coin- cidently, the burglary alarm and request for aid were at the same location,” the state- ment reads. “It is believed at the time of this report that Schultz attempt- ed to break into the residence by climbing down the chimney, getting himself stuck. We believe that his accomplices forced entry into the residence attempting to free him but triggered the home alarm instead,” police said. – Ridgecrest (CA) PD www.digitalallyinc.com | 800.440.4947 HD Video Evidence Now Available In Your Car!
