The Department of Justice is losing $1.3 billion in funding in 2017 alone. The Trump transition team said that the Office of Community Oriented Polic- ing Services and Violence Against Women grants will be eliminated. Funding will also obvi- ously be cut for the DOJ’s Civil Rights and Environ- ment and Natural Resources divisions. All of these moves mirror something called the “Blue- print for Balance.” That’s a mock federal budget that the conservative Heritage Foundation pub- lished last year. Ironically, the Heritage Foundation is where the Affordable Care Act was created. Closed! Even if you’re not the religious type, you have to admit that sometimes mi- raculous things can and do happen. In Texas recently, resi- dents were dealing with a nasty storm and a related tornado. In Smithland, a 75-year- old woman and her son survived the twister by tak- ing refuge in the bathtub. According to KSLA, Rick- ey Williams and his mother, Charlesletta were watching a weather report warning of a possible tornado in the area. “I don’t know what it was, but it started, ‘Woo woo, woo,’” Charlesletta said. The mother and son got to the tub right before the twister destroyed the struc- ture. “The whole house start- ed shaking,” Williams told KSLA. “I heard, like, a ‘poof,’ and I knew the roof came off.” Then they went airborne. The twister picked up the tub and carried the two off. But instead of crashing violently back to Earth, Wil- liams told reporters it felt like someone placed us on the ground. Mary Taylor, Charleslet- ta’s daughter, believes it was divine providence. “God was watching over her,” Taylor said. Survived twister in tub Nice work if you can get it.
