No. What would I know? I’m only Batman. And tell the guy finding the stolen bikes to call me about a possible lawsuit. T here’s a great episode of “Sein- feld” where Jer- ry’s place gets robbed after Kramer left the door open. Jerry calls it in and a cop comes to the apartment to take the report. As the officer’s leaving, Jerry asks, “Do you guys ever find any of this stuff?” “No,” the cop says stone- faced and leaves. Like a lot of things in life, we laugh because it’s funny and also because it’s true. Take stolen bikes, for in- stance. Cops have a hard enough time with armed home inva- sions, professional burglaries and stolen vehicles. There just isn’t much time or money available to throw at stolen bikes. That’s why Bike Batman’s a hit with cops and bike rid- ers alike in Seattle. Like Bruce Wayne, the crusader cannot divulge his identity for obvious rea- sons. But he’s no billionaire – he’s a 30-something engi- neer who just decided to do something positive for his community. Here’s Bike Batman’s M.O.: He checks Craigslist and sites like OfferUp.com for “suspicious” bike listings— ones in which “the seller appears to know very little about the bike or has a photo in an odd, unidentifiable location.” He runs those against postings on Bike Index, a site where people can reg- ister their bikes and report thefts. The guy’s been at it for about a year and has re- united 22 bikes with their rightful owners. “It was so cool. My heart was just beating so happily,” Douglas Brick, a 65-year-old Seattle resident who got his bike back via the Batman last summer told report- ers from the UK Guardian. “This guy is the real deal.” And anyone or anything that can help clear cops’ plates so they can focus on more serious crimes is a massive bonus for cash- strapped agencies. You’ll never guess what this Bike Batman dude does I was going to see Batman Versus Superman, but I decided to save $20 and just punched myself in the neck. 850 LUMENS & SOMETHING UP ITS SLEEVE.
