Since May 2016, over 100 police officers throughout the United States have lost their lives in the performance of their duties. Of them, more than 50 were killed by confrontational gunfire. “In commemoration of National Police Week, we salute all of the brave men and women of law enforcement who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” said SBA President Ed Mullins. “There are no words to describe the magnitude of their bravery and commitment to public safety, and we owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.” The police officers killed by armed adversaries are: Edward D. The posthumous honorees included Sgts. Paul Tuozzolo and Donald Conniff, as well as Dets. Steven McDonald, Randolph Holder, Joseph Lemm and Brian Moore, all of whom died as a result of their official duties. Det. Lemm, a Technical Sergeant in the Air National Guard, was killed while deployed to Afghanistan.
