The Walton County Sher- iff’s Office posted the note on their Facebook page. “The arrest scared the HELL out of her and I’m hoping she learned her les- son. The reason that I am sending this is that every officer that I talked to or that I could hear in the back- ground talking to her was so nice.” The girl and several other Spring Breakers were ar- rested last month. “She was holding a can of beer on the beach. A stupid move that I warned her about before she left, but I’m just her mother, so ‘in one ear and out the other,’” the letter continued. “Each and every officer was respectful and assured me she would get back to her house safely. For a mom hundreds of miles away, that was very reassuring.” “In this day, ‘cops’ are get- ting a bad rap. So, I wanted to say ‘thank you.’” Thank you so much for arresting my daughter According to an article in the New Zealand Herald, a po- lice officer recently went full stunt man and jumped from a helicopter into the sea to help rescue two kayakers who capsized. Emergency services were called to an area off the Cornwallis wharf, in West Auckland. The seas were rough. A police helicopter re- sponded. One of the kayak- ers was hanging on to the boat but the other was float- ing away. First they called backup. Then the Kiwi cop took the plunge. “Our crew kept an eye on them and reported back to the Police Maritime Unit and Coastguard as well as their location and condi- tion,’’ a police statement said. The reason the officer felt compelled to get into the water was the guy that wasn’t holding on to the kayak looked he might go under at any time. “The guy who was still in the water had started to turn blue and was struggling to hold on to the kay- ak, so one of our rescue swimmers was sent into the water,” police said. The cops stayed in the water with the pair for between 10 to 15 minutes before the Coast- guard arrived at the scene.
