Celebrity grocery bagging raises funds for Law Enforcement Memorial

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) – Law enforcement and their families, as well as local community leaders and volunteers pitched in Saturday and Sunday to bag groceries.

They were raising tips and donations for the Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation of Southeast Minnesota.

The organization is working to build a new memorial at Soldiers Field Park to honor law enforcement and corrections officers who died in the line of duty.

Last year, this event raised just over $4,000 and Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson expects more this year.

“I think at the rate we’re going here, it’s definitely going to be more than that. We’re probably fortunate that the weather was real cold and people didn’t get out during the week, so they’re here this weekend.”

So far, the foundation has raised about $150,000 total, which is about 20 percent of its goal.

It hopes to start building the memorial as early as this year.
