Harris County cops, EMS lock themselves in hot car to raise awareness

To demonstrate how dire of a situation it is to leave children or pets in a hot vehicle, several first responders in Harris County subjected themselves to triple-digit temperatures Saturday.

The demonstration happened just 48 hours before a 9-month-old girl was left in a locked pickup truck in east Harris County. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to the heat and later died.

Hers was the ninth such death in the United States this year and second in Texas, following the death of a 7-month-old Eagle Pass girl who was left in the back of her father’s vehicle.
