Via the Des Moines Register:

Des Moines police are warning those who want to help the families of the slain Urbandale and Des Moines officers not to donate online at GoFundMe.com.

“It has been brought to our attention that there are GoFundMe accounts set up, purporting to be established by the friends and family of Sgt. Beminio and Officer Martin,” Des Moines police said in a statement. “There are no GoFundMe accounts being managed or authorized by the friends or family of the officers.”

Here is the link for the official funds set up to help officer Justin Martin and Sgt. Anthony Beminio.

The funds were set up through the Urbandale Police Protective Benevolent Association and The Des Moines Police Officer Burial Association, nonprofits overseen by boards of trustees.

Donations can also be made in each officer’s name online at The Des Moines Police Officers’ Credit Union is at 423 E. Court Ave., Des Moines, 50309.

“There’s no more cost-effective way to give money to the officer families,” said Andy Fogle, chief executive officer of the credit union.
