There are a lot of things technology is good for. We no longer have to find change for the tollbooth because we have our EZ-passes.
And if you’re the kind of person that likes to watch 14 hours of Netflix straight and doesn’t “have time” to go the supermarket or the bookstore you just give Amazon/Bezos your credit card and someone or something brings whatever you want right to your door.
Or what about if you think your spouse or significant other is cheating on you? Well if you’re a cop you can always take a chance on using criminal databases for personal reasons (very low risk considering the numbers of cops that get caught/face consequences.)
But for civilians there are literally hundreds of off the shelf surveillance solutions that will allow you track the boyfriend/girlfriend/target’s every move.
Unfortunately for the corrections officer in this tale, it doesn’t appear that the surveillance did much besides making a bad relationship infinitely worse.
