Shortly after the controversial Netflix documentary “Making a Murderer” aired, everyone with a mouth or a computer started sounding off about perceived problems with the conviction of its main subject, Steven Avery.
People on the internet, which used to be called the “peanut gallery,” had a lot of very mean things to say about the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department and local prosecutors.
Whether or not a single one of the critics knows anything about capital murder investigations, forensics, or the criminal justice system is entirely beside the point.
On the internet, everyone’s an expert.
Just look at your doctor’s face when you complain his or her diagnosis doesn’t line up with what you read on WebMD.
But the comments are useful in one respect.
They should be required reading for any boss or manager that decides it’s a good idea to sign on to a reality television series or a heavily edited documentary.
