Appearance standards have changed drastically in the law enforcement community in recent years.
Not long ago, most agencies had policies that required officers with visible tattoos to wear long sleeves to cover the ink.
But much like residency requirements, police associations have mounted effective campaigns to allow officers to show their tattoos while on duty.
Generally speaking, this usually isn’t a problem.
And it’s not entirely clear what the tattoos sported by a cop in Philadelphia who’s the subject of a lot attention right now actually represent.
But needless to say, anything that looks remotely like an image of white supremacy is going to be the subject of a lot of conversation.
The head of the local police union says he doesn’t see what all the fuss is about.
The city’s mayor and the internet, however, have a different opinion.
