In Brevard County, Florida, Sheriff Wayne Ivey is saluting his team after deputies managed to save an endangered sea turtle.
From the Sheriff: “Members of the Animal Enforcement, Ag/Marine and Motor Units from the Canaveral Precinct rescued an injured sea turtle last week that was entangled in fishing line and was unable to get free.
“In order to save the turtle’s life, our team had to first recover the turtle from the water and then remove the fishing line and a giant hook that was tightly wrapped around the turtle’s neck, preventing it from moving.
“Our team members worked together to cut the line and giant hook away from the turtle while being cheered on by onlookers from a nearby cruise ship and campers in Jetty Park.
“Once the line was safely removed, the turtle was transferred to the Sea Turtle Preservation Society to assist in a full recovery.
“Every day our members work to protect our citizens while also acting without hesitation to help an incredible creature or pet that is harm’s way.
“I could not be more proud of our team for everything they do to protect our community and for their compassion to protect anything or anyone who needs help.”
