Union City Police Officer Shot During Looting

The officer was shot in San Leandro while assisting there. Meanwhile, trucks and vans arrived at Union Landing, apparently intent on theft.

A Union City police officer was injured Sunday in San Leandro, while supporting the police department there as it dealt with widespread looting.

The Union City officer was shot in the hand. The officer was wearing a protective glove and suffered only minor injuries from the bullet, according to police.

While that was happening in San Leandro, several groups arrives in large vans and trucks at Union Landing shopping center with the apparent intent to loot stores there, but officers cleared many of the looters, police said.

Also in Union City, a member of the city’s Public Works crew reported being hit in the head by a bottle thrown at him.

A curfew is planned in Union City.
