8 AMERICAN POLICE BEAT: MAY 2017 Let’s be honest, Tally Hall is no Manuel Neuer. In fact he’s not even Nick Riman- do. If you don’t follow foot- ball, known in the USA as “soccer,” you probably have no idea what we’re talking about. But according to MLS In- sider, former Orlando City goalkeeper Tally Hall joined a different Orlando team last week, when he was officially sworn in as an officer in the Orlando Police Depart- ment. Hall, 31, played eight sea- sons in the pros. He started 153 regular sea- son matches and was critical in helping the Houston Dy- namo to their appearances at MLS Cup in 2011 and 2012. He played one year in Or- lando, starting 23 matches for the Lions. He recently talked about why he chose to join the Or- lando PD in a video released on the department’s Twitter account. He says the truth is he always wanted to be a cop. Obviously there were some comments about how this will impact the Orlando PD’s soccer team. Local firefighters sounded worried. Friar Tuck posted: Yeah buddy, the Orlando Fire Department squad strikers are gonna have to step up their game. Orlando PD has a ringer between the posts Athletes turned cops: Andrew “Andy” Wood- ward (born 23 Sep- tember 1973 in Stock- port, England) is an English former profes- sional footballer who played in the English Football League for Crewe Alexandra, Bury, Sheffield United, Scunthorpe United and Halifax Town.
